Shark Week, Discovery Channel’s long-running aquatic marathon, is just a few days away and the countdown is in full swing. The 30th Anniversary of this widely popular series starts on Sunday, July 22, 2018. Shark Week 2018 will be the best week of the year, and it is right around the corner.

About Shark Week 2018

The Discovery Channel will unveil 22 specials through the eight days of Shark Week 2018. This year’s special will involve all sorts of famous faces as support cast including Shaquille O’Neal, Ronda Rousey, Lindsey Vonn, Aaron Rodgers and Guy Fieri.

For those of you new to the show, Shark Week is an annual programming block that runs for an entire week. It was created by Discovery Channel’s Tom Golden and premiered in July 1988. Shark Week has since grown to become one of America’s most sacred summer traditions.

Let’s face it, since Stephen Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster film Jaws, Americans have been obsessed with sharks. 13 years later, the first special aired and was so successful that Discovery Channel turned it into an annual event. Shark Week became the longest-running cable TV event in 2010.

Shark Week 2018 Highlights

Sunday, July 22nd

1. ALIEN SHARKS: THE GREATEST HITS (7 p.m. ET)

Kicking off the event, the Discovery Channel recounts the most notable discoveries, weird adaptations and memorable moments from the previous five years of Alien Sharks.

2. BEARS VS. SHARK (8 p.m.)

Bear Grylls returns to Discovery and goes toe-to-toe with sharks in their home turf.

3. SHAQ DOES SHARK WEEK (9 p.m.)

The Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal attempts to overcome his fear of the sharks with the help of former US Marine Rob Riggle.

4. UNCAGED: SHARK VS. RONDA ROUSEY (10 p.m.)

Famous UFC champion Ronda Rousey transfers her fighting spirit to the water as she squares off with the mako shark.

Monday, July 23rd

1. MONSTER TAG (8 p.m.)

All-star athletes Lindsey Vohn, Aaron Rodgers and Rob Gronkowski team up with researchers to learn more about shark populations.

2. GREAT WHITE ABYSS (9 p.m.)

A team of experts dives off Guadalupe Island, which is a great white shark hotspot.

Tuesday, July 24th

1. GUY FIERI’S FEEDING FRENZY (8 p.m.)

Discovery teams up with Guy Fieri and his son in the Bahamas to find out why the islands are an ‘all-you-can-eat-buffet’ for sharks.

2. LAWS OF JAWS (9 p.m.)

Expert divers Liz Parkinson, Nick LeBeouf, Mike Dornellas and filmmaker Andy Casagrande, take to the waters to reenact five real-life shark attacks.

3. AIR JAWS: THE HUNTED (10 p.m.)

A necropsy of five great white sharks that washed up in South Africa in 2017 revealed that they were eaten alive. Shark biologist Alison Towner believes the culprits are Orcas and sets out to investigate.

Wednesday, July 25th

1. SHARK TANK MEETS SHARK WEEK (9 p.m.)

SHARK TANK’s Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary pair up with various oceanic organizations to discuss issued facing sharks worldwide.

2. SHARKCAM STAKEOUT (10 p.m.)

Shark Cam is back. Dr. Greg Skomal and Dr. Tristan Guttridge visit the Bahamas to document the private lives of hammerhead and bull sharks.

Thursday, July 26th

1. SHARKWRECKED (9 p.m.)

Paul de Gelder, a shark-attack survivor, teams up with a marine survival expert to investigate what happens during a shipwreck in shark-infested waters.

2. TIGER SHARK INVASION (10 p.m.)

Dr. Neil Hammerschlag leads a team to the Galapagos to document how tiger sharks (new to the island) are turning the ecosystem upside down.

Friday, July 27th

1. MEGALODON: FACT VS. FICTION (8 p.m.)

Shark Week goes pack in time to reassess its first documentary Megalodon: Still Lives to show how the massive creature would live today.

2. GREAT WHITE SHARK BABIES (10 p.m.)

Dr. Mauricio Hoyos and an all-female team track pregnant great whites to Baja in Guadalupe to confirm the area as shark birthing grounds for conservation purposes.

Saturday, July 28th

1. RETURN OF THE MEGA SHARK (9 p.m.)
The daring Andy Casagrande and Jeff Kurr return to search for the largest great white sharks in New Zealand.

2. SHARKS GONE WILD (10 p.m.)

This will be a look at shark- events of 2018 including viral videos, news stories, and latest shark research.

Sunday, July 29th

1. NAKED AND AFRAID OF SHARKS

This will be a befitting finale to an amazing run of shows. A group of 5 NAKED AND AFRAID all-stars tries to survive for two weeks on a barren island on Earth’s most shark-infested waters.
